Babysitting and Baby-colds

Posted by Jessica on December 24, 2009 at 3:34 am in Writings, life

So, on Monday I did my mother a favor and took over her day babysitting her niece (My cousin Crystal)’s kids. Crystal has two little ones, a nine year old boy and a four year old girl. It wasn’t so bad, they were really good. Besides being a over-excited about playing video games, they were awesome. There was even a third kid who was another cousin that was staying over that was good as gold, so I was watching three kids from about 2-6pm, which was perfectly fine with me.

Well, the four-year old that I was watching had a bad cough. I didn’t think too much of it and told her to cover her mouth when she coughed and kept hand sanitizer handy. Well, I ended up getting sick yesterday. I stayed all day in bed and hoped that it wouldn’t get worse than a fever and congestion.  And luckily, when I woke up this morning, I felt much better!

Lol, onto other subjects! I’ve been doing a bunch of nothing still. It’s driving me insane. Whenever I’m on campus, I always feel busy or have somewhere to go, even if it’s just a walk. But at home, it’s home or going out, but what is there really to do when you’re sorta broke? Lol, campus and classes are starting to look more and more exciting.

On Sunday, I’m heading down to Chattanooga to visit with my friends. It should be a fun few days. I’ve been to Alana’s house a few times and this’ll be the first time I’ve gone to my friend Jessica’s. I’m excited!

So, now onto the subject of Christmas, which I’m fairly certain a lot of people are thinking about.  I’ve started cooking already with my grandmother. Yeah, I think two days in advance is a bit much, but my mom can’t make cornbread for nothing and we need it for Christmas and if my grandma feels like doing it today, I guess we are.

I hope that Christmas goes smoothly. I really like nice quiet holidays. The craziness is fun for a bit, but I just like to relax… that and open presents. Yay, presents!

I also started yet another short story. This time it’s from the point of view of a woman! Le gasp! Hopefully it’ll turn into something interesting and if it does, you can be certain that it’ll appear on my Works page. :)

I can’t think of much else to say for the moment, so I’ll end this entry here. I’ll update again on Christmas!

Casino Trip!

Posted by Jessica on December 19, 2009 at 6:10 am in Writings, life

Well, I’m back from Metropolis, Illinois. I’ve actually been back for a few days, I’ve just been way too busy to update the blog lately.

Well, to all of those who have never been gambling, there isn’t much to it. It was like being in a huge arcade that took dollars with a bunch of uptight middle aged people. The employees were cool and my parents rocked, but besides that, everyone else sucked. I think the most I won at any time was $25, lol

However, the hotel did have a nice view.

That’s the Ohio River in the background. Apparently, outside of Las Vegas and Indian Reservations, it’s illegal to have casinos on land, so every other casino is over water. Interesting stuff!

Also! Metropolis, Illinois is also the hometown of Superman. The entire city is Superman theme. Even the town paper is called the Planet. There is also a HUGE Superman statue in the townsquare!

I think the festive hat was a nice touch. Apparently Superman is very American and believes in Santa! It was really nice to see!

So, the short story that I was writing is finished at seven pages. It wasn’t smutty at all, sadly. So! I am currently working on a self-indulging sequel to the story inwhich the two characters get togehter. Want to read? It’s called “Moving On” and its located under the “Works” Section, listed above, or just click here. I’ll post again when the sequel is finished!

On December 27-29th, I’ll be going back to Chattanooga. I’ll stay two days with my friend Jessica and I’ll be staying a night with my friend Alana before I come back and get ready for the new year.

Well, that’s all for now!

What was the last trip you were on?
Ever been gambling before?

End of Semester + Chattanooga Trip

Howdy!

So right now I’m in the midst of finals. Well, probably not the midst per se, I’ve finished one of them at the moment, my dreaded Psychology Exam. I feel pretty good about it, actually.

This weekend is time for me to focus on editing my two short stories for my Creative Writing class, so I started working on that after the Psych exam. Hopefully I won’t have to rewrite most of the story to make it better. I probably should’ve been doing this sooner. My first story (Located, unedited in the Works section called ‘The Price of Company’) is the one that probably needs the most work. The story doesn’t need a totally break down and rebuilding, but I do foresee at least 3-4 pages of material added into it. I’ll post the edited versions of both stories after I finish with them for those interested. :)

Besides edited the stories, I have a Classics and History exam to tackle. I don’t really fear either of them. Both of them are just things I need to look over and refresh in my mind.

So, I went to see a friend of mine that lives in the nearby city of Chattanooga for a few days. It was so great to see her again! I am so glad to know that she is going to be returning to college with me next semester after her injury (she broke her ankle and was forced to take a semester off).x3 I’m excited!

Daniella took me out for dinner Monday in celebration of my birthday. It was delicious and I had my first margarita (Strawberry!). Mm, delicious. I don’t like regular alcohol, but mixed drinks? Delicious. I guess that makes me a wuss, but that’s a-okay with me. I’d rather be a wuss, means I probably won’t get too crunk anytime soon.

I also have the urge to write a rather raunchy short story. I even know the setting, but I’m not doing it simply for the fact that I don’t know what I want to happen exactly. Oh well, it’ll be a project for my Winter Break.

Well, that’s all for now. I’ll keep you guys updated on my momentarily fading social life.

Are your finals soon?
If, yes, are you worried about them? If no, any projects?
Is there a story you want to write?

New Major and New Stuff

Posted by Jessica on October 27, 2009 at 12:18 am in School, Writings, life

Well, I finished my story last night. For those interested in reading it, it’s located in the ‘Works’ under the listing of ‘Detachment’. :)

So there’s a big update in my life!

After getting extremely pissed off with the psychology department at my university, I formally changed English to my Primary major and Psychology is my secondary major. I just couldn’t take that every time I tried to get the Psychology department’s help with an anything that I was met with nothing. I suppose because there are just so many psychology majors…

Well, at the moment it means I’m on my way to becoming an English teacher! =)

And after that bit of excitement, I went to Daniella’s apartment to pick up a few things that I ordered and had sent there.

x33 I’m so excited! I love Hetalia! It’s my guilty pleasure since I’m kinda falling out of my anime love.

Anyway, I also drew a picture today! I started it last night and finished it today. Since the picture is a little racey, I went and ahead and put it under the cut. =)

So be warned! It’s kinda sexual with two men!

Relieved!

Posted by Jessica on October 25, 2009 at 12:33 am in Writings, life

Oh! I am the most relieved girl at the moment!

So, I’ve been fretting for the last week about my short story. I’ve been worried that it’s nothing interesting and that the ending I wanted was contrived and boring. But I kept working on it anyway. Why? Because it’s due next Tuesday and I still think it’s better than the other short stories I was thinking about writing.

Well, today I was feeling particularly down about this story. I had just started the ninth page of text when I realized that I didn’t know what I was going to do next.

But! Help was found! My awesome friend Lisa read over it and pulled me through the funk and helped me with the ending! All that I have to do now is write it out and think of a title!

Now, off the topic of my short story!

Today was a pretty slow day. I spent it mostly in my room working on the story and watching documentaries on time and space and ancient creepy-crawlies. The only time I left the room was when I walked to McDonalds for dinner.

After watching these documentaries, I always have a sense of insignificance. I mean, a million years from now, I won’t be remembered. I mean, if you think about it, of the billions of people that have lived since the dawn of man, how many of them are written in the history books? It takes a special kind of person to become great. I don’t think I have it. But having said that, it doesn’t really bother me. A LOT of people have don’t have what it takes to be remembered a thousand years after they die.

…That was unintentionally depressing. Lol, sorry, guys.

Well, I suppose I’ll end this hear. I’ll stop avoiding my short story and focus on my music (which is ‘White Tie Affair’ by the way). Until tomorrow!
