The Absurdities of My Life… And Tuna.

New Major and New Stuff

Well, I finished my story last night. For those interested in reading it, it’s located in the ‘Works’ under the listing of ‘Detachment’. :)

So there’s a big update in my life!

After getting extremely pissed off with the psychology department at my university, I formally changed English to my Primary major and Psychology is my secondary major. I just couldn’t take that every time I tried to get the Psychology department’s help with an anything that I was met with nothing. I suppose because there are just so many psychology majors…

Well, at the moment it means I’m on my way to becoming an English teacher! =)

And after that bit of excitement, I went to Daniella’s apartment to pick up a few things that I ordered and had sent there.

x33 I’m so excited! I love Hetalia! It’s my guilty pleasure since I’m kinda falling out of my anime love.

Anyway, I also drew a picture today! I started it last night and finished it today. Since the picture is a little racey, I went and ahead and put it under the cut. =)

So be warned! It’s kinda sexual with two men!

Relieved!

Oh! I am the most relieved girl at the moment!

So, I’ve been fretting for the last week about my short story. I’ve been worried that it’s nothing interesting and that the ending I wanted was contrived and boring. But I kept working on it anyway. Why? Because it’s due next Tuesday and I still think it’s better than the other short stories I was thinking about writing.

Well, today I was feeling particularly down about this story. I had just started the ninth page of text when I realized that I didn’t know what I was going to do next.

But! Help was found! My awesome friend Lisa read over it and pulled me through the funk and helped me with the ending! All that I have to do now is write it out and think of a title!

Now, off the topic of my short story!

Today was a pretty slow day. I spent it mostly in my room working on the story and watching documentaries on time and space and ancient creepy-crawlies. The only time I left the room was when I walked to McDonalds for dinner.

After watching these documentaries, I always have a sense of insignificance. I mean, a million years from now, I won’t be remembered. I mean, if you think about it, of the billions of people that have lived since the dawn of man, how many of them are written in the history books? It takes a special kind of person to become great. I don’t think I have it. But having said that, it doesn’t really bother me. A LOT of people have don’t have what it takes to be remembered a thousand years after they die.

…That was unintentionally depressing. Lol, sorry, guys.

Well, I suppose I’ll end this hear. I’ll stop avoiding my short story and focus on my music (which is ‘White Tie Affair’ by the way). Until tomorrow!

Mmm, Chocolate! ..And Papers.

Hello!

So, today was a pretty fun day! I went out with a friend while she ran errands. It was fun for my because I got to get off campus for a little while!

We went to the mall and I went to Godiva where I bought the most delicious chocolate!

It was heavenly! The way the fruit tasted as it mixed with the milk chocolate! *drools* And! Mine was made fresh! The man behind the counter said that their fruits had just come in and he made a batch specially because I requested them! I am so happy! Yes!

I also bought several of their pumpkin chocolate truffles. Mmm! Divine!
Okay, so that’s all I’m going to say about Chocolate for now. I promise.

This weekend I have to worry about finishing my short story. It’s at seven pages. That means I’ve met the page number requirement, but the actual story isn’t done… which is saddening because I really want to work on my other writing projects but can’t due to this. This is more important though. Man!

Not only that, but I’ve got two papers due in November. One is due at the beginning of the month and one at the end. One is for Classics and the other for History. No problem, I just don’t like writing paper. :(

Why is it that I can churn out a five page paper I don’t want to write quicker and more easily than I can put out a paper I have complete freedom over? Perhaps the freedom is constricting.

Anyway, that’s all for today!

Question for all of you: How do you feel about assigned topics versus a paper you have complete freedom over?

Movie Nights, Fire Drills, and Short Story

Posted by Jessica on October 21, 2009 at 4:33 pm in School, Writings, life

Hello!

So, this morning, I awoke to the announcement that they were going to be working on the fire alarm system in my dormitory. That doesn’t sound too bad, right?

Well, I got up, took a shower, and came back to my laptop to check e-mail when suddenly the fire alarm went off. The horrific part? I was still in my robe and wet and it was thirty-four degrees outside.

So, during the ensuing chaos, I hurry to get dressed and my roommate, Lindsey, isn’t really sure what to do. I’m trying to explain that she should get to the fire escape, but I also have a shirt half on and digging for socks.

I was quickly put to ease when a friend from down the hall walked down and told me that I didn’t have to vacate the building. I was pretty relieved… and had a record time for getting dressed.

So, now that that adventure is over with, I’ll update you on what’s going on in life.

Last night, Hannah and I decided to watch a few movies. I showed her The Tingler (A favorite with my Dad), Stir of Echoes, and Final Destination. They were all awesome!

Tonight is going to be The Road to El Dorado and Matilda. I’m so excited!

I’m also going to work more on my short story. It’s at five pages right now and the ending does feel like it’s going to happen too soon. I’ll put a section below the cut for those interested.

Back in the Groove

Hello All!

So, I decided that it’s time that I attempt to increase traffic to my blog. I really want to attract people here! I’ve joined up with BlogExplosion.Com in hopes that more people will come visit me. =)

Today was my first day back to classes. I won’t lie, I have a pretty easy schedule this semester. Two classes a day, really. It’s a really nice schedule. Today was Classics and World Civ.

After class, I went with my friends to see Paranormal Activity. As I told you, I’ve already seen it, but they hadn’t and well.. I didn’t mind seeing it again. It was just as interesting the second time. Less scary, of course, lol.

After the movie, we went to Barnes and Noble. I spent a lot of time looking at graphic novels and looking through the Young Adult section. Is it just me, or has everyone else noticed that every other YA book is Vampires/Macabre subjects? Everything that is particularly popular right now has to do with Vampires, Demons, and/or Witches? The two book series I saw most prominently displayed were Twilight and Vampire Diaries. It’s kind of sickening.

I feel like that, if I really wanted too, I could churn out some 200+ page vampire romance novel and be published before the end of next year. Maybe I will. Let’s see what the next year has in the cards.

Anyway, I made a purchase. The movie Stir of Echoes.

I love this movie! I grew up watching all kinds of horror movies, and this is one of my favorites!

Anyway, I’ll leave you all with this: How do you feel about the bulk of YA books out there? What’s your opinion on the Vampires?
