Time Management

Posted by Jessica on February 15, 2010 at 1:54 pm in Work, life

….is what I have to learn to be better about.

I think I’m pretty good with managing my time. I feel really bad because I haven’t had time to do my blogroll lately. I need to hop to it and get everything going a little better.

Work isn’t so bad. After the first two days, I think I’m getting into the groove of making Smoothies for hours. It’s actually pretty fun. The worst thing about it? It gets really slow at certain points… and by really slow, I mean dead. I mean, standing around for an hour doing my closing work three hours before we close.

Anyway! Away from work, I’ve also been reading the book When Jeff Comes Home. It’s actually a really sad novel targeted to YA-readers about how a teenaged boy deals with being being back home and reentering society after being kidnapped and held for two-and-a-half years by a man who abuses him physically and sexually only to take him back home when he loses interest in him sexually. I dunno why I’m reading it. It struck me as something I wanted to and I went out of my way and ordered it when my Financial Aid excess check came in.

Oh yeah! I also saw the movie Wolfman on Saturday. It wasn’t bad. There were several “BOO! Got’cha bitch!” parts throughout the movie that made me jump, but other than that, it was awesome.

I need to start reading Guilty Pleasures for my English class. Not too bad, just need to force myself to settle down and actually read it. =)

Well, that’s all for now!

What’re you currently reading?

Employed!

Posted by Jessica on February 8, 2010 at 1:22 pm in Work, life

So, Jessica is employed! I got a job last Friday at a Tropical Smoothie down the street from the mall thanks to her friend Hannah. I’m pretty excited about having a job, but I’m really nervous.

Why?

The guy who hired me told me that he only hired me because he hired my friends. I’m super nervous. I have to prove myself to that I was good to hire.

Anyway, I start Tuesday. I work Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and I’m off Sunday.

Oh yeah! Tuesday is my story’s critique. We’re going over my story “Moving Forward”. Wanna read? It’s in my Works section. :)

I’ll update Tuesday night!

After the First Day of Classes

Posted by Jessica on January 15, 2010 at 4:25 am in School, classes

Well, tomorrow marks the third day of the semester. I’ve been to all of my classes and finalized my schedule. :)

Monday, Wednesday, Fridays:

English 254: Themes in Lit, Vampires from Dracula to Twilight
This class is really awesome. We’re going to be reading  Dracula, Carmilla, The Vampyre, The first novels in the Anita Blakes series, Sookie Stackhouse novels, Vampire Huntress Legend novels, and the Twilight Series. We also look as Vampire poems such as “Christabel“. All of these sources are to show us how the Vampire legend has evovled through time.

Education Psychology
This is the first class I take on my route to becoming a teacher. The class seems ridiculous complicated with it’s grading, but it might justbe because I’m not used to it yet. I have this class with Daniella.

Mathimatical Reasoning
Ehn, one of the two math classes I’m required to take for my math requirement. It seems kind of fun so far and the teacher seems really nice, I just hope that I can do well in the class.

Tuesday and Thursdays

Anthropology 110
Another gen ed. class. It seems pretty interesting and the Professor seems like a nice guy.

Creative Writing 464
The last level of creative writing. I’m still feeling this class out. I like how the class is set up, but I’m not sure how I feel about the professor at the moment. She seems kind of uncaring. I have a story idea in mind and I really hope it pans out. I’m going to start writing on it soon.

And now, away from classes…. which there isn’t much to talk about outside of classes at the moment. I bought a GPS for my car, and I’ve bought some school books. *shrug* Nothing in particular.

I’ve also been putting together song lists for differnet things. I’ve made them for particular stories I’ve read, particular things I write for, etc. Just different things. It’s really fun to do. :)

Well, that’s all for now. I’ve been super tired since classes started and I honestly cannot think of a way to make this blog anymore interesting than it is at the moment.

Until next time!

Random Question: Can you recommend me your favorite song at the moment?

Done with Exams! Yay, Winter Break!

Posted by Jessica on December 10, 2009 at 6:08 am in Ramblings, School, life

So! I’m done with exams for the moment and I’m at home for a month for my Winter break. Whew! I’m glad to be done with it!

My plans for December:
1. Casino trip with the ‘rents starting Sunday. I’ll take lotsa pictures!
2. Start my smutty short story that I’ve been wanting to write! (Idea in mind! Already starting!)
3. Help my sister get back into college or help her with other options.
4. Sign up a friend for Standardized Testing for College.
5. Enjoy Christmas and New Years with the family.
6. Read at least 2 of the 6+ I brought home with me.
7. Get a haircut!
8. Try to get to Chattanooga to visit Jessica and Alana between Christmas and New Year’s
9. >.> Make sure not to over indulge.
10. Find awesome cheap prices for my school books for next semester.

And that’s all I can think of for the moment, lol! It feels like a lot to do in a month, but I’m sure that I’ll laze about for most of the month before I finally get around to some of the stuff.

Oh! For those interested, I have added the revised versions (AKA, the versions that I turned in for my Final grade) of The Price of Company and Detachment. The previous versions are down for now. These are, in my opinion, more complete versions of the stories.

I have also been obsessed with OneRepublic’s new CD, Waking Up. I feel like the more I listen to it, the more I fall in love with it. It is a beautiful CD. I’m not sure if I like it better than their first one yet, but I am totally NOT disappointed by the CD at all… Unlike how I was with Panic! At the Disco’s newest CD. If you get a chance, please listen to the CD!

That’s all for this specific update!

@ Daniella: Would you be interested in doing Chattanooga with me? And let me know if/when you come to Nashville!

Do you have a to-do list?
Who is your favorite musical performer at the moment?

“I Threw It On the GROUND!”

Posted by Jessica on November 9, 2009 at 11:41 pm in School, life

\”Andy Samberg Threw It On the Ground\”

I am utterly in love with Andy Samberg. He’s best known as a Saturday Nigh Live cast member. You might know him as that guy from the group (The Lonely Island) that sings “Jizz in My Pants” or “I’m On a Boat”. You might even know him from when he hosted the MTV Movie Awards this year.

But however you know him, I think he’s hilarious! He does a lot of funny songs for SNL and I don’t think there’s been on that I haven’t enjoyed yet. I think he’ simply great.

And now, away from what I think is hilarious. Here is my tentative  schedule for next semester for those interested!

English 254 ; I call it my ‘Twilight Class’, but it’s a literature class focused on Vampires from Dracula to Twilight. I’ve met and talked to the Professor already and she seems to be a joy and I’m excited for the choices that she’s picked. Dracula, Buffy, Sookie Stackhouse novels, Anita Blake series, etc.  And as for my stance on Twilight? …I’m not the biggest fan. I’ve read the series, but.. Twilight will be reserved for another topic.

Educational Psychology 210: My first step toward becoming a High school teacher! :)

Anthropology 110: A gen. ed. class. Human Origins. Lol, so much fun.

Math 125: A calculus class. ….Ehn, I wish I didn’t have to take the class. I hate Calculus. Alegebra and Geometry? I can do it, but not this Quantatative Reasoning shiz. Ugh, Gen Ed.

Sociology 120: General Sociology. Look interesting, but if I need to drop a class, this is the one that’s going.

And as for my Wait-listed class:

English 464: The last level of Creative Writing. I love taking these classes. It breaks me away from what I normally write.

What else is there to mention? Oh yeah! I saw Cirque du Freak. I read the book series in High school so I figured I had to see the movie when it came to the big screen!

All in all, I liked the movie. Sure, it was very different from the books, but I didn’t mind that. They did it well and there is definitely going to be a sequel to patch up the loose ends. It kinda sucks that it did so badly at the box office though. I hope the sequel is made, lol.

Well, that’s all for now! I post again soon!
