Absurd Tuna

The Absurdities of My Life… And Tuna.

Just an update

Posted by Jessica on April 28, 2010 at 5:16 pm in Ramblings, classes, life

Sorry that it’s been like a month since I’ve last updated for anyone who keeps up. I’ve been, sadly, really busy. Work has been more time-consuming than I originally thought it was. Oh, well. Money is a really nice thing to have.

So, MTAC is a definite thing. Going with my buddy Hannah this weekend. We’re getting a hotel and touring Nashville and going to the con on Saturday. It should be fun. I’ll post some pictures  from the trip whenever I get a chance.

I’ve been so stressed out lately. I’ve had to finish three papers, do a lot of final work, and write a short story for a class. I’m finished with all of it besides one paper that I need to make additions to and the short story. I just can’t wait for the year to be over with so I can go home and have a break.

So, I think I’m going to start living under the feeling of “when it rains, it pours”.  This is definitely the most work that I’ve had in my whole college career at the end of a semester. It’s crazy. I’ve also had a few tastes of drama with friends that I won’t go into, but I’ve been dealing with. On top of that, I’m still working part-time at the Smoothie place. The worst part? Work feels like more an escape from the bull crap than anything else.

Anyway, I’ll stop complaining for the moment. I’ll restart my blogroll once the summer starts and I have a chance to take a breath.

Crazy Busy and Happy Easter!

Yes, I’ve been crazy busy for the last few weeks. I’ve had two papers and a short story to write along with all the homework that I’ve been given by my other classes. It’s been hard to think of things to write for this place because although I haven’t been bored, nothing too interesting has happened. Just work and chilling out with friends.

I finished the short story and the unrevised version can be found here. Warning, there is harsh language and sexual situations.

Besides that, I have plans to go to MTAC this year. I’m going to have to be very good about my paychecks for the next few weeks. Luckily, my parents live just down the street from the con, so I can go home and eat, but I’m still shacking up in a hotel with whoever is going with us.

What else is there to mention? Oh! I’ve been looking at Grad school with MFA programs for Creative Writing. I’m seriously thinking about getting a Master’s, if not a Doctorate in Creative writing. I still want to become a teacher, but I want this dream too. I feel like it’s all attainable.

Well, that’s all for now. Happy Easter!

Super Busy

Posted by Jessica on February 11, 2010 at 3:23 pm in School, Work

For the first time in my life, I ‘ve SUPER busy. I haven’t been this busy since last year when I was running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off trying to get my three papers done nad studying for a Japanese test at the time. Oh and if you look at the paragraph, you can see how country I actually am.

Why am I so busy, you ask? Well, first off, I got a job. The problem with this? I said I was a little too available to work. I didn’t take into account that I’m taking a reading intensive class, a writing intensive class, and a Math class when I was filling out my application and didn’t think about my time managment and now I’m having to work Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and weekends. I’m going to HAVE to cut back to weekends only. Of maybe cut down my hours requested from 20 to 12.

I feel super stressed because I started work the same weeks I have a lot of exams. In the next week, I have a Math exam, an Anthropology Exam, an English Exam, and I have another Educational Psychology exam coming up.  Ugh!

Anyway, that’s all for no. My story’s critique didn’t go too badly. There were a few people that were kind of jerks, but nothung huge. My first day of work wasn’t bad. I made smoothies. I only really messed up once, so it w as cool.

Oh yes! Next Wednesday I get to go to a free showing of Shutter Island! I’m so excited! It’s two days before the movie hits theatres! Awesome!

Until next time!

Employed!

Posted by Jessica on February 8, 2010 at 1:22 pm in Work, life

So, Jessica is employed! I got a job last Friday at a Tropical Smoothie down the street from the mall thanks to her friend Hannah. I’m pretty excited about having a job, but I’m really nervous.

Why?

The guy who hired me told me that he only hired me because he hired my friends. I’m super nervous. I have to prove myself to that I was good to hire.

Anyway, I start Tuesday. I work Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and I’m off Sunday.

Oh yeah! Tuesday is my story’s critique. We’re going over my story “Moving Forward”. Wanna read? It’s in my Works section. :)

I’ll update Tuesday night!

Charlatan Illusionists and Teacher Meetings

Posted by Jessica on January 25, 2010 at 11:11 pm in Ramblings, classes, fun

Just another life update since the last time I posted.

Nothing much is going on here lately and I honestly can’t think of anything interesting to post about. I’ve done nothing much besides hang out with my friends when I haven’t been in class. I also have been working on reworking one of my short stories for my English 464 class.

Last friday I went to what I thought was going to be an illusionist show only to learn that it was a Christian message in disguise. Brock Gill came to campus to do a show and since I like things like David Blaine and Criss Angel, I decided to go.

The thing that bothers me the most was simply the fac t that I felt like I paid $5 just to see him stand up on stage and play with cards and try to fool us. I know enough about magic that I was able to pick out his distractions when they happened. Anyway, before the intermission, he told us that he wanted to talk about his life and that if we “did want to hear it, we could just leave”. Well, I paid to get into this show, I was going to see what he wanted say.

What did he want to say? He wanted us to find Jesus. I suppose it was a nice message to spread along. I’m a Catholic, I don’t mind people talking about Jesus. My problem was that I didn’t know it was going to be a Christian-y message until I had seen flip a few cards around for an hour. I didn’t think I was going to get a message about religion while I was supposed to enjoy myself seeing some illusions.

And the even sketchier part was simply the way he talked to us about the disater in Haiti. He asked for donations for his mission trip and to send supplies down there. He claimed all the supplies that were beign sent to Haiti were being bottlenecked by customs and they weren’t getting through. He claimed that the company he worked with found this super secret way into Haiti through the Dominican Republic and that we should give to him because it was sure to get to the people there. ….It sounded too sketchy for me.

I left the performance kinda disappointed. It was okay, because I went back with my friends and watched Sergeant Frog until one in the morning.

Well, that’s all for the moment. I need to do more and update more often. I want to make this interesting for all my readers! Lol, that means I need a more interesting life.

I talked to my creative writing teacher and I told her one of my book ideas and she actually told me that I should write it. What does that mean? It means that I’m going to start writing my book. I am going to fix what I have so far and make it presentable for my second short story. I’m super excited! It’s currently 30 pages, and I plan for it to be at least 120 pages by the time the first draft is done and longer after I edit more. That’s the plan. Will I still with it? Who knows. I just know that I want to write it. I wanna get it out of my head.

Well, that’s all for now! I’ll talk to you later!
