The Absurdities of My Life… And Tuna.

Music, Chia Pets, and More!

Posted by Jessica on January 20, 2010 at 9:48 pm in Ramblings, fun

Well, since classes have begun again I have began writing again. Most for my creative writing classes, but also because I joined a fic fest that I have to write a fiction for. With luck, I can get the fic for the fest done in time to turn it in as my second story! Lol, sneaky, sneaky.

Whenever I got back from break, a friend of mine gave me one of her two chia pets that she had gotten for Christmas. It as a Sponge Bob chia!

I planted mine. He doesn’t look like the above yet, sadly. I’ll post a picture when he starts to look good.

So, I’ve been pretty obsessed with the band 3OH!3 (Click here for their band page). I’m not sure why I like them. Maybe I’m in denial about how much I actually like rap music. I guess I like rap music that isn’t all about the club, the bitches and hos, getting crunk, straight up about sex, too much language. Which cuts down my selection of what I actually really like, but there are even exceptions to the rules. Three-six Mafia usually breaks every rule, but I still listen to them. *shrug*

Last Friday, I started playing Silent Hill 2 with my friends Hannah and Alana. We’re pretty far in it. We hope to finish it this weekend and get started on Silent 4 in the beginning of February.

Is it just me, or is it strange that I’d rather watch people play video games rather than play them myself? I dunno, I just rather not play.. unless it’s a meelee game like Tekken or Soul Calibur or something.

Well, I was hanging out with Daniella today. We were talking about the different things she could make and sell at MTAC when it rolls around. I’m kinda excited. I hope I end up going. I’ve been to MTAC every year since 2004. In fact, in 2004, my art was in the handguide that every hand-goer carried with them!

That’s all for today!

What was the last video game you played?
Have you ever been to any kind of Convention?

Hyperfiction

Posted by Jessica on December 11, 2009 at 9:48 pm in Ramblings

To all of those who read: This is just me talking about a type of fiction that I’ve been recently introduced too.

Have you ever been on the internet and found an interesting story? One of which you weren’t sure how real it actually was? Have these stories ever been accompanied by pictures, actual place names, newspaper articles? Still have the lingering doubt that even though it feels possible that it might not be?

Welcome to hyperfiction. I’ve been aware of hyperfiction for several years now, but it’s just recently that I learned it had an actual name. There are many forms of hyperfiction. The one I mention above, which will tell a story that gives proof and sometimes tries to convince you how real it is and the other is a kind of ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ thing, where you choose what happens next. These stories can be linear or nonlinear and take place in more than once place (for example, multiple websites, e-mails, text messages, all reportedly written by “multiple people”).

The reason why I write this entry at all is because today I read a hyperfiction piece.

Normally, whenever I’m bored, I like to read things about the Paranormal. It’s just a hobby of mine and I’m not going to say that I don’t find that stuff alluring. I like to read about other’s experiences with the Paranormal and such. I don’t normally read books based off of ghost stories and such, I’m more a fan of Urban Fantasy and the like, but every now and then I do like to read a piece of Hyperfiction based off the paranormal. Today was the case with The Dionaea House.

It was a relatively fast read, I managed to get through it all in one sitting and such. It’s a story that basically chronicles the e-mails and text messages that the site creator passed along with a friend about the murder/suicide committed by a mutual friend that they used to hang out with. It later goes from texts to e-mails or texts to journal updates and the like.

Without giving spoilers beyond the few that I have, there were a few inconsistencies about the story itself. It was very interesting, but some of the plot movers weren’t brought in until really late in the game, but that’s understandable and forgivable given the format of the story.

Once I finished it, reminded me of another story that I had read a few years ago. This one is more linear and less all over the place, this one taking place only from the narrator’s website, which is made up of transposed text from a caving journal. This website? Ted’s Caving Page. It’s a Lovecraftien tale of a man’s adventures in a cave. I haven’t finished it as it is much longer than the first one mentioned, but it is pretty good.

Anyway, that’s all for this entry. I just thought I’d put out there what I’ve been reading lately. I wish I were creative enough to do something like this and plan it out, but I write sporadically and would probably lose interest in the project. Bully for me.

Do you ever read books published online?

How do you feel about alternative types of story-telling like this?

Done with Exams! Yay, Winter Break!

Posted by Jessica on December 10, 2009 at 6:08 am in Ramblings, School, life

So! I’m done with exams for the moment and I’m at home for a month for my Winter break. Whew! I’m glad to be done with it!

My plans for December:
1. Casino trip with the ‘rents starting Sunday. I’ll take lotsa pictures!
2. Start my smutty short story that I’ve been wanting to write! (Idea in mind! Already starting!)
3. Help my sister get back into college or help her with other options.
4. Sign up a friend for Standardized Testing for College.
5. Enjoy Christmas and New Years with the family.
6. Read at least 2 of the 6+ I brought home with me.
7. Get a haircut!
8. Try to get to Chattanooga to visit Jessica and Alana between Christmas and New Year’s
9. >.> Make sure not to over indulge.
10. Find awesome cheap prices for my school books for next semester.

And that’s all I can think of for the moment, lol! It feels like a lot to do in a month, but I’m sure that I’ll laze about for most of the month before I finally get around to some of the stuff.

Oh! For those interested, I have added the revised versions (AKA, the versions that I turned in for my Final grade) of The Price of Company and Detachment. The previous versions are down for now. These are, in my opinion, more complete versions of the stories.

I have also been obsessed with OneRepublic’s new CD, Waking Up. I feel like the more I listen to it, the more I fall in love with it. It is a beautiful CD. I’m not sure if I like it better than their first one yet, but I am totally NOT disappointed by the CD at all… Unlike how I was with Panic! At the Disco’s newest CD. If you get a chance, please listen to the CD!

That’s all for this specific update!

@ Daniella: Would you be interested in doing Chattanooga with me? And let me know if/when you come to Nashville!

Do you have a to-do list?
Who is your favorite musical performer at the moment?

Mmm, Chocolate! ..And Papers.

Posted by Jessica on October 24, 2009 at 1:11 am in School, life

Hello!

So, today was a pretty fun day! I went out with a friend while she ran errands. It was fun for my because I got to get off campus for a little while!

We went to the mall and I went to Godiva where I bought the most delicious chocolate!

It was heavenly! The way the fruit tasted as it mixed with the milk chocolate! *drools* And! Mine was made fresh! The man behind the counter said that their fruits had just come in and he made a batch specially because I requested them! I am so happy! Yes!

I also bought several of their pumpkin chocolate truffles. Mmm! Divine!
Okay, so that’s all I’m going to say about Chocolate for now. I promise.

This weekend I have to worry about finishing my short story. It’s at seven pages. That means I’ve met the page number requirement, but the actual story isn’t done… which is saddening because I really want to work on my other writing projects but can’t due to this. This is more important though. Man!

Not only that, but I’ve got two papers due in November. One is due at the beginning of the month and one at the end. One is for Classics and the other for History. No problem, I just don’t like writing paper. :(

Why is it that I can churn out a five page paper I don’t want to write quicker and more easily than I can put out a paper I have complete freedom over? Perhaps the freedom is constricting.

Anyway, that’s all for today!

Question for all of you: How do you feel about assigned topics versus a paper you have complete freedom over?
