The Absurdities of My Life… And Tuna.

I bought a domain today! =D I’m still being hosted by Daniella, so not much else has changed besides that, but it’s still super exciting! So, don’t go updating bookmarks because I’m still being hosted in the same place, I was just excited and thought that I’d mention it.

Also! If it isn’t blaringly obvious, I have a new layout for Absurd Tuna! Yay! Fun! I edited it slightly to suit my own needs, but a link to the original creator is down below and in the credits section!

So, what’s been happening these last few days? Nothing much. I’ve been feverishly looking over the thirty-pages of manuscript that I have for my book idea, fixing it back, making edits to make the story flow easier, and fixing dumb mistakes. It feels crazy to say that I have thirty pages of manuscript and the story has just gotten started. I know that there is a lot that’s going to have to be fixed, but so far its just it’s first, rocky draft. It’ll need to be fine-tuned and such once that I finish with it.

The hardest part about this is that, without giving too much away of what it is, it’s a rewrite of a story that’s already out there. Well, not really a rewrite as much as it’s a modernized version. I’m looking over the original and noting important plot points and trying to figure out how to bring it to a modern audience and still have the same feeling that the original did. I don’t know how good of a job I’m going to do, but I am trying my hardest and trying not to make too many creative liberties.

Anyway, sorry that I’ve talked about the book-in-progress for two posts now. I just hope that the interest doesn’t dwindle. I can imagine writing another 30 pages and stopping for another year with it. I don’t want that to happen.

Oh yeah! I’m also going home this weekend! Fun! I’ll get my GPS system from my parents and will get lost less.

Well, until next time!

Charlatan Illusionists and Teacher Meetings

Posted by Jessica on January 25, 2010 at 11:11 pm in Ramblings, classes, fun

Just another life update since the last time I posted.

Nothing much is going on here lately and I honestly can’t think of anything interesting to post about. I’ve done nothing much besides hang out with my friends when I haven’t been in class. I also have been working on reworking one of my short stories for my English 464 class.

Last friday I went to what I thought was going to be an illusionist show only to learn that it was a Christian message in disguise. Brock Gill came to campus to do a show and since I like things like David Blaine and Criss Angel, I decided to go.

The thing that bothers me the most was simply the fac t that I felt like I paid $5 just to see him stand up on stage and play with cards and try to fool us. I know enough about magic that I was able to pick out his distractions when they happened. Anyway, before the intermission, he told us that he wanted to talk about his life and that if we “did want to hear it, we could just leave”. Well, I paid to get into this show, I was going to see what he wanted say.

What did he want to say? He wanted us to find Jesus. I suppose it was a nice message to spread along. I’m a Catholic, I don’t mind people talking about Jesus. My problem was that I didn’t know it was going to be a Christian-y message until I had seen flip a few cards around for an hour. I didn’t think I was going to get a message about religion while I was supposed to enjoy myself seeing some illusions.

And the even sketchier part was simply the way he talked to us about the disater in Haiti. He asked for donations for his mission trip and to send supplies down there. He claimed all the supplies that were beign sent to Haiti were being bottlenecked by customs and they weren’t getting through. He claimed that the company he worked with found this super secret way into Haiti through the Dominican Republic and that we should give to him because it was sure to get to the people there. ….It sounded too sketchy for me.

I left the performance kinda disappointed. It was okay, because I went back with my friends and watched Sergeant Frog until one in the morning.

Well, that’s all for the moment. I need to do more and update more often. I want to make this interesting for all my readers! Lol, that means I need a more interesting life.

I talked to my creative writing teacher and I told her one of my book ideas and she actually told me that I should write it. What does that mean? It means that I’m going to start writing my book. I am going to fix what I have so far and make it presentable for my second short story. I’m super excited! It’s currently 30 pages, and I plan for it to be at least 120 pages by the time the first draft is done and longer after I edit more. That’s the plan. Will I still with it? Who knows. I just know that I want to write it. I wanna get it out of my head.

Well, that’s all for now! I’ll talk to you later!

Babysitting and Baby-colds

Posted by Jessica on December 24, 2009 at 3:34 am in Writings, life

So, on Monday I did my mother a favor and took over her day babysitting her niece (My cousin Crystal)’s kids. Crystal has two little ones, a nine year old boy and a four year old girl. It wasn’t so bad, they were really good. Besides being a over-excited about playing video games, they were awesome. There was even a third kid who was another cousin that was staying over that was good as gold, so I was watching three kids from about 2-6pm, which was perfectly fine with me.

Well, the four-year old that I was watching had a bad cough. I didn’t think too much of it and told her to cover her mouth when she coughed and kept hand sanitizer handy. Well, I ended up getting sick yesterday. I stayed all day in bed and hoped that it wouldn’t get worse than a fever and congestion.  And luckily, when I woke up this morning, I felt much better!

Lol, onto other subjects! I’ve been doing a bunch of nothing still. It’s driving me insane. Whenever I’m on campus, I always feel busy or have somewhere to go, even if it’s just a walk. But at home, it’s home or going out, but what is there really to do when you’re sorta broke? Lol, campus and classes are starting to look more and more exciting.

On Sunday, I’m heading down to Chattanooga to visit with my friends. It should be a fun few days. I’ve been to Alana’s house a few times and this’ll be the first time I’ve gone to my friend Jessica’s. I’m excited!

So, now onto the subject of Christmas, which I’m fairly certain a lot of people are thinking about.  I’ve started cooking already with my grandmother. Yeah, I think two days in advance is a bit much, but my mom can’t make cornbread for nothing and we need it for Christmas and if my grandma feels like doing it today, I guess we are.

I hope that Christmas goes smoothly. I really like nice quiet holidays. The craziness is fun for a bit, but I just like to relax… that and open presents. Yay, presents!

I also started yet another short story. This time it’s from the point of view of a woman! Le gasp! Hopefully it’ll turn into something interesting and if it does, you can be certain that it’ll appear on my Works page. :)

I can’t think of much else to say for the moment, so I’ll end this entry here. I’ll update again on Christmas!

Casino Trip!

Posted by Jessica on December 19, 2009 at 6:10 am in Writings, life

Well, I’m back from Metropolis, Illinois. I’ve actually been back for a few days, I’ve just been way too busy to update the blog lately.

Well, to all of those who have never been gambling, there isn’t much to it. It was like being in a huge arcade that took dollars with a bunch of uptight middle aged people. The employees were cool and my parents rocked, but besides that, everyone else sucked. I think the most I won at any time was $25, lol

However, the hotel did have a nice view.

That’s the Ohio River in the background. Apparently, outside of Las Vegas and Indian Reservations, it’s illegal to have casinos on land, so every other casino is over water. Interesting stuff!

Also! Metropolis, Illinois is also the hometown of Superman. The entire city is Superman theme. Even the town paper is called the Planet. There is also a HUGE Superman statue in the townsquare!

Yours Truly in front of the Statue

I think the festive hat was a nice touch. Apparently Superman is very American and believes in Santa! It was really nice to see!

So, the short story that I was writing is finished at seven pages. It wasn’t smutty at all, sadly. So! I am currently working on a self-indulging sequel to the story inwhich the two characters get togehter. Want to read? It’s called “Moving On” and its located under the “Works” Section, listed above, or just click here. I’ll post again when the sequel is finished!

On December 27-29th, I’ll be going back to Chattanooga. I’ll stay two days with my friend Jessica and I’ll be staying a night with my friend Alana before I come back and get ready for the new year.

Well, that’s all for now!

What was the last trip you were on?
Ever been gambling before?

Done with Exams! Yay, Winter Break!

Posted by Jessica on December 10, 2009 at 6:08 am in Ramblings, School, life

So! I’m done with exams for the moment and I’m at home for a month for my Winter break. Whew! I’m glad to be done with it!

My plans for December:
1. Casino trip with the ‘rents starting Sunday. I’ll take lotsa pictures!
2. Start my smutty short story that I’ve been wanting to write! (Idea in mind! Already starting!)
3. Help my sister get back into college or help her with other options.
4. Sign up a friend for Standardized Testing for College.
5. Enjoy Christmas and New Years with the family.
6. Read at least 2 of the 6+ I brought home with me.
7. Get a haircut!
8. Try to get to Chattanooga to visit Jessica and Alana between Christmas and New Year’s
9. >.> Make sure not to over indulge.
10. Find awesome cheap prices for my school books for next semester.

And that’s all I can think of for the moment, lol! It feels like a lot to do in a month, but I’m sure that I’ll laze about for most of the month before I finally get around to some of the stuff.

Oh! For those interested, I have added the revised versions (AKA, the versions that I turned in for my Final grade) of The Price of Company and Detachment. The previous versions are down for now. These are, in my opinion, more complete versions of the stories.

I have also been obsessed with OneRepublic’s new CD, Waking Up. I feel like the more I listen to it, the more I fall in love with it. It is a beautiful CD. I’m not sure if I like it better than their first one yet, but I am totally NOT disappointed by the CD at all… Unlike how I was with Panic! At the Disco’s newest CD. If you get a chance, please listen to the CD!

That’s all for this specific update!

@ Daniella: Would you be interested in doing Chattanooga with me? And let me know if/when you come to Nashville!

Do you have a to-do list?
Who is your favorite musical performer at the moment?
